Our recent trip to Roswell got us thinking about perception. Neither of us can see without glasses, so the world is fuzzy for both of us-- metaphorically and actually. When we don't wear our glasses, what's outside comes closer and the lines between the "self" and "other" blur.
What we see, and by extension, define as alien to us is dependent upon the lens we're using. If we continue to see the world in terms of "us" and "them," or "friend" and "foe," we will continue to create separation and enmity.
Of course, it's not that simple, and boundaries are inevitable, but we like to imagine that we could create something beyond a nation of aliens. It's a tall order, to be sure, but we think we're up for it. Are you?

P.S. Have you heard about Haven Con?! It's an LGBTQIA geek/gamer conference and the beautiful brainchild of Shane Brown. We had such a great time playing, we felt right at home, and we didn't want to leave. Can't wait for HavenCon 4!
